Innovation Day Reflection

The Problem

Our problem was that there is so much heat on the pavement that people get some of the most severe injuries. So we had the idea that we could harness that power to create energy using a fan, and the heat from the pavement.

Hypothesis

We thought that the pavement could be used to create energy. We created a fan to prove that it will create energy.

Materials

The materials we used to create our diorama were pie tins, pencils, sticky tack, candles, and YouTube videos for inspiration. For our board, we added hand-drawn pictures, ribbons, minions, and LED lights. We also used a lighter to light the candles, and we used black candles to mimic pavement.

Procedure

To start we tried making the fan out of tinfoil, but the blades drooped. We ditched that idea and made it out of pie tins that were thicker, so that the blades wouldn’t droop so much. That worked really well, although we had to play with the angles that the blades were positioned in. After we found an angle that we liked, we decided to decorate it. My partner decided to name the fan “Judy” so we wrote her name on all the blades along with cool designs. The day of the presentation, Judy decided she didn’t want to stay up. Our fan fell so much that it had black scorch marks afterward. The fan spun really well, though, after we tinkered with it. Lots of parents and students loved it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I loved this project and look forward to doing it again next year.
