Innovation Day Reflection

The Problem

Our problem was that there is so much heat on the pavement that people get some of the most severe injuries. So we had the idea that we could harness that power to create energy using a fan, and the heat from the pavement.

Hypothesis

We thought that the pavement could be used to create energy. We created a fan to prove that it will create energy.

Materials

The materials we used to create our diorama were pie tins, pencils, sticky tack, candles, and YouTube videos for inspiration. For our board, we added hand-drawn pictures, ribbons, minions, and LED lights. We also used a lighter to light the candles, and we used black candles to mimic pavement.

Procedure

To start we tried making the fan out of tinfoil, but the blades drooped. We ditched that idea and made it out of pie tins that were thicker, so that the blades wouldn’t droop so much. That worked really well, although we had to play with the angles that the blades were positioned in. After we found an angle that we liked, we decided to decorate it. My partner decided to name the fan “Judy” so we wrote her name on all the blades along with cool designs. The day of the presentation, Judy decided she didn’t want to stay up. Our fan fell so much that it had black scorch marks afterward. The fan spun really well, though, after we tinkered with it. Lots of parents and students loved it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I loved this project and look forward to doing it again next year.

B’tzelem Elohim

When we say B’tzelem Elohim, we mean that everyone is “made in g-d’s image”.

Q: What does it mean to be “made in g-d’s image”?

A: To be “made in g-d’s image” means to be unique, or different.

Q: What do you think this says about you and your friends?

A: I think it means we are all different, so we shouldn’t judge our friends and others by their looks.

Q: Is everybody the same?

A: No, being different is like being somebody else, not being a follower.

Q: What makes each of us unique?

A: We all look different, but we also have different personalities.

“Alex isn’t my best friend, but we still get along, and we talk alot at recess.”

מידרשים

HEWWO EVEWYBOODY! Today in cwass we were asked to cweate a midwash about two diffewent tings.

Q:What did Rachel think when she saw her sister having kids?

A: Once soon apon a time there was a woman named Rachel, and she couldn’t have kids. But her sister could… She felt jealous of her. She wanted to have kids of her own. Soon her jealousy turned to anger, and she stayed isolated in her tent for 3 years.

A woman sitting inside her tent getting ready for the day

Q: What were Rachels concerns… give her advice.

A:  After the 3 years, she began to grow lonely. She decided it was time to go outside. After a while she again thought  that she wanted kids. She was concerned that she would never have kids.

I would tell her to ask her sister to take care of one or two of her kids, because Leah (Rachels sister), being a nice person, would probably let her.

I hope you liked my midwashim.

Thank U!

מידרש

We were asked to make a מידרש, wich is a gap in the torah where nobody knows what happend so we make a guess, about yakov’s journey from be’er shevah to charan.

LEGENDS AND MYTHS!!!!!!!

Hey y’all! I’m gonna tell you ’bout the new unit. And because of the title, you already know. LEGENDS AND MYTHS!!!!!!!

So once I read too many legends, I began the creative side. I created a legend, with a wolf. Here it is:

About 1.2 billion years ago, Lake Superior was formed near a forest. In the process, a wolf’s home was destroyed. This wolf’s name was Temper, and this is why. Unlike you and me, this wolf lost his temper very quickly. Temper had grey-brown fur, and dazzling blue eyes. Temper’s home got flooded, and he got mad. He would snap at the bottom of any person’s feet, and drag them under. Before long, a smelly foul wolf came under water. They created a family, and that family grew, and grew, and grew. About 3 years later, a human came. He had clean, white skin, and a dark brown unibrow. He was 32, but he still wore silver armour, and bore a sword. He fought hard, but Temper was immortal. He protected his pups, though the man got to them. He slew all 13 pups, and the she-wolf. Now, Temper sits alone under the Lake Superior waters, sleeping. But when he awakens, and when he is hungry… You are a tasty treat. So now you know about Temper the wolf, and where all those children went. So if I were you, I wouldn’t swim in Lake Superior.

Here is the origin of Temper the wolf:

Temper the wolf was created 1.7 billion years ago, when some humans destroyed his home. But Temper was actually created by accident. Varuna, Hindu god of water, was attempting to make a new underwater animal, in his underwater palace, so vicious that kids would not swim in their territory. Varuna had blue eyes, a merman tail, and long, wavy, silver hair. It did turn out vicious, but not scary enough, so they abandoned it. Temper was sad to be left by his master, but he found a home. And Lake Superior was created.

I added pictures, and turned it into a book, which now sits in the OJCS library.

I unfortunately do not have the book right now, so I am unable to take pictures of it to show you.

Welp, thats it for my ridiculously long (x-tra short) blog post! Byyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeee!

Rocks and Minerals

I love rocks. They are probably my favourite thing to do research on. So let’s get right to it! Opals are 1 kind of rock/gem*. They come in many different colours, like red, white or light blue. But what makes the “Opal ” special, is that when you hold it up to the light, it glows different colours! The “Opal ” is also the second strongest material on earth. The “Opal” is most commonly found in Coober Pedy, Australia.

The ”Amethyst” is a purple variety of quartz, which you will learn about later, and owes its violet colour to irradiation, impurities of iron and in some cases other transition metals, and the presence of other trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice.

The heaviest “amethyst” ever mined weighed 2.5 tonnes. That’s about as heavy as 5 grand pianos!

“Quartz” is also an energy source. The electrical reaction can be created by applying a charge, physical stress, or heat. Quartz is also distinguished as a gem that is capable of triboluminescence, or the ability to create light under pressure. Some different kinds of “quartz” are “strawberry quartz” and “milk quartz”. The heaviest quartz ever mined was 14,100 kg. That’s about 3 and a half hippopotamuses! Isn’t that awesome?

”Emerald” is a gemstone and a variety of the mineral beryl colored green by trace amounts of chromium and/or sometimes vanadium. Beryl has a hardness of 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale. Most emeralds are highly included, so their toughness is classified as generally poor. The heaviest emerald ever mined was 1,505 g. That’s as heavy as 2 bricks! It gets cooler every time!

“Turquoise” is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium, with the chemical formula CuAl6(PO4)4(OH) 8· 4H2O. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gemstone and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. The heaviest turquoise weighed 225 kg. That’s as heavy as a bit less than 2 horses! Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum, consisting of aluminium oxide with trace amounts of elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, vanadium, or magnesium. The name sapphire is derived from the Latin “saphirus” and the Greek “sappheiros”, both of which mean blue. Diamond is a solid form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a crystal structure called diamond cubic. At room temperature and pressure, another solid form of carbon known as graphite is the chemically stable form of carbon, but diamond converts to it extremely slow.
